So you've decided you wanted to to invest in a home recording studio or a place where you can lay down your vocals/instrumentals tracks. Yes, it is possible to make good quality tracks with out spending a kizzillion dollars on a world class studio. In case you are fairly new to this I will tell you the basic and essential things you need to build your home recording studio.
-> The 1st thing you need is a flexible budget.
-Although it wont cost you a fortune , depending on your needs you might have to spend a pretty penny.
->A COMPUTER-a powerful processor with a lot of ram and external hard drive.
-In the age of computer based recording, I recommend a MAC, however a PC can get the job done ,
Ext Hd- for all your files in case your comp crashes and to spare your default hard drive.
Music software eats up at your computers memory , so you need a computer that can handle the work.
-> a DAW( Music Software)
Weather your recording vocals or producing beats there are a myriad to choose from ranging from Protools,
Logic, Sonar, Fruity loops,Reasons,Etc. Even free Daws such as Audacity.
Some programs' require an interface, matter of fact most of them do.
If you plan on using Protools plan on buying an interface.
->Condenser Microphone
If you plan on doing any recording , your going to need a mic.
Invest in yourself, if you want good sound quality, you get what you pay for.
So don't opt for the 75$ USB mic. Save up for the quality mic , you'll appreciate it.
-> Studio Monitors
They can range from anywhere 75$-1000$ . But for starters you want something small -medium sized, reliable , with good sound clarity. You want Playback right? Unless.....you just listen through your headphones : /
-> Studio Headphones
Dont be Cheap with these. Buying good quality head phones is a good investment, it comes in handy when it comes time to mix your tracks. You want to hear the detail and clarity.
-> WorkStation(Producers)
Primarily this will be your Midi keyboard or your drum machine, mpc etc. In most cases get your self a nice midi keyboard and you'll do some nice things with it.
